SweDev took part in the biannual NorDev conference in Uppsala 21-23 August 2023. We had a well visited information table where representatives from the network informed about SweDev activities and several new members were recruited.
During the conference, the SweDev annual assembly took place. The assembly was extremely well attended, bringing together development researchers from the Nordic countries. SweDev steering committee member Elisabeth Olivius from Umeå University presented the network, sharing information about activities during the last year.
In the open discussion during the assembly there was a vivid conversation about the changing landscape with reduced funding for research for global development. While many participants expressed their disappointment with the current trend, several constructive ideas were discussed about how to strengthen our field. Ideas included developing new types of collaboration as well as continued engagement with politicians and policymakers.
SweDev will continue to work to strengthen research for global development and we encourage all interested members to contribute in this process!
