Event summary: The Development Research Conference is a bi-annual conference gathering researchers working in fields linked to development and sustainability.

The Development Research Conference, Lund University, 21-23 October 2024: “Reaching the Sustainable Development Goals in a polarized world”

Growing polarization in the world is hampering our efforts and ability to collectively reach the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. The ongoing war in both Ukraine and Gaza is leading to shifting power balances and changed political priorities for many countries, with international development cooperation increasingly being sidelined. Current wars in combination with the aftermath of the pandemic are also impacting the global economy, hitting countries in the Global South particularly hard. In addition, accelerating climate change and biodiversity loss is affecting natural resource dependent communities the most, with the majority living in low and middle-income countries.
