Improving healthcare in conflict zones – evidence from Palestine, Colombia, and Red Cross hospitals

About the seminar

Health systems face numerous constraints in armed conflicts. Equal health is an important objective in Swedish development cooperation and the conflict perspective should be integrated in all work. That raises questions on how healthcare in conflict zones can be improved and in what ways development cooperation can contribute to better healthcare access, treatments, and systems.

Different aspects of health and healthcare in conflict settings are the focus of three Development Dissertation Briefs published by the Expert Group for Aid Studies, EBA. These summaries of recent doctoral theses examine questions such as: How can resources needed for surgeries in armed conflicts be used more effectively? How do conflicts affect women’s access to sexual and reproductive health and rights? How can health systems be improved to better handle war injuries and non-communicable diseases?
