SEI and SweDev Dialogue on development research with Anzetse Were on 11 May 2023.

SEI’s Development and Aid Policy Team and the Swedish Development Research Network are happy to present Anzetse Were as the keynote speaker for the SEI and SweDev dialogue on development research on 11 May 2023, 11:00-12:15 CET.

Topic

Africa continues to be disproportionately negatively affected by the impacts of climate change, the effects of which ripple through all layers of the economies on the continent. The effects range from impacts on fiscal and monetary policy, focused sectoral effects as well as direct impacts on livelihood and firm activity. And while there is a widely acknowledged gap in green and climate finance required to address these effects, the funding gap persists. At the same time, there is more that African governments, private sector and development players can do to ensure the continent anchors, retains, and scales green and climate finance to address these challenges. Anzetse Were will explore the layered economic effects of climate change in Africa and how intelligently re-crafting financial architecture can aggregate the positive effects of green and climate finance towards economic resilience in Africa.
