Event summary: Join the webinar and learn more about the negotiations under the Global Biodiversity Framework.

Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity will meet at COP 15 in December to adopt a new Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). This webinar is organised to inform the negotiations under the Global Biodiversity Framework on the suggested indicators for tracking consumption activities.

Background

The GBF will contain ambitious goals and targets to bring about a transformation in humanity’s relationship with biodiversity by 2030, and ensure that, by 2050, the shared vision of living in harmony with nature is fulfilled. Progress against the GBF will be measured using a Monitoring Framework comprised of indicators.

Target 16 of the draft GBF focuses on encouraging and enabling sustainable consumption. The Bonn Expert Workshop on the monitoring framework for the GBF assessed two indicators as potential candidates for the headline indicator for COP15 to consider adopting for Target 16; the Global Environmental Impacts of Consumption Indicator and the Ecological Footprint.

How these indicators can be used for monitoring and communicating the international impacts of consumption activities will be discussed at this webinar.
