Event summary: The Expert Group for Aid studies organizes a seminar to launch two reports on food, aid and agriculture.

This event is hosted by the Expert Group on Aid Studies (EBA). Note that the event is in Swedish.

Background

The number of hungry people, as well as the number of people living in extreme poverty in the world is increasing. Tackling this, broad and well-functioning food supply systems are required. To reduce poverty, agricultural development is central, especially in low-income countries. How does Swedish aid relate to these challenges? A new evaluation from Sida and a new report from the Expert Group for Aid Studies show that the focus on these issues is modest.

How should this be interpreted? Are analyses of, and support for, these areas insufficient? Or have the issues been integrated and become self-written parts of Sweden’s development cooperation? And, when such broad social problems are highlighted: is it reasonable to start from a specific economic sector, such as agriculture, for the design of aid?
